Creating Off Hours Pharmacy Initiated Orders

In the Pharmacy Initiated Orders model, pharmacy category orders are entered by the pharmacy. Orders received that are required for administration while the pharmacy is closed, must be entered into the system by the community

Communities must fax the written order to the pharmacy to maintain accurate pharmacy records. Routine orders received in Pending Confirmation status by pharmacy must be confirmed. Orders entered and administered during pharmacy closed hours must be discontinued. 

Warning

Medications that are not required for administration while pharmacy is closed should not be entered by the facility. These orders should be faxed for pharmacy to enter.

  1.  Care Services > Residents > Resident Name > Orders.

  2. Administer and document in eMAR.

  3. Fax order to pharmacy.

    Note

    Orders can be sent to pharmacy by prescription, physician order form, or other paper forms determined by pharmacy. 

  4. Confirm orders received from pharmacy: Clinical > Resident > Resident Name > Orders > click Confirm.

  5. Review order details. Click Save & Confirm.

    Note

    If order details are incorrect and you cannot edit, click Strike Out and notify pharmacy.

  6. To discontinue community entered order, do the following: 

    • Care Services > Residents > Resident Name > Orders > click d/c.

  7. Click Discontinue Order.
