Troubleshooting - Ordered/Reordered Medication not Delivered

Whether in an integrated or manual environment, there is a process for ordering medications from the pharmacy. At times, you expect a medication to be delivered from the pharmacy and it is not. This is often due to a communication breakdown between the community and the pharmacy. Take the steps below to help determine why the medication was not delivered.

  1. Check the Orders tab in the resident's chart to see if the order is:

    • Saved - not still in queue.

    • Confirmed - not still pending confirmation.

    • With status of Active

  2. Click the plus (+) next to the order and view the status. It should be On Order.

  • If still To Be Ordered (if not integrated), run the pharmacy requisition report and fax to pharmacy.

  • If the med is a controlled drugs or IV, check to see that the order/reorder was also faxed to pharmacy.

  • If Integrated with pharmacy and it was a reordered medication, check the Order Alert Dashboard to see if there is a refill too soon alert.

  • If all above checks out, call the pharmacy.
