Managing Diagnosis Notifications

Diagnosis Notifications can be managed by selecting the action links to the left of the notification from either the clinical dashboard pane or from the Med Diag tab of the resident's clinical chart. It is recommended that facilities have a process in place for managing these notifications daily.

  1. Click review to the left of the notification to start the Medical Diagnosis Wizard.

  2. In the Medical Diagnosis Wizard window, click Choose to the left of the diagnosis to select and add the description from a defined list.

  3. In the Medical Diagnosis Search window, click choose that appears to the left of the appropriate code you want to add to populate the code and description in the appropriate fields of the Medical Diagnosis Wizard window.

  4. Complete the other fields in the Medical Diagnosis Wizard window, including the Date, Rank, and Classification fields.

  5. Repeat the procedure for each diagnosis in the window, and click Add Diagnoses to update the chart.

  6. In the Medical Diagnosis Ranking window, if required, make necessary changes to the ranking and classification of the resident's current diagnoses.

  7. Click Save. When the notifications screen refreshes, the review link doesn't appear.

  8. Select clear to clear the notification.

  • This process is extremely important to ensure consistency in the clinical records. To update the diagnosis later, when the wizard appears, click Create Notification to send notification to the Clinical Dashboard and the Medical Diagnosis module of the chart.

  • It is recommended that you complete the wizard immediately after the MDS Assessment, soon after the differences in the records are identified. This helps ensure consistent records.

  • You can also click the review link in the Diagnosis Notifications pane on the Clinical Dashboard to start the Medical Diagnosis Wizard.

  • Each organization should have a process in place to manage diagnosis notifications daily to prevent discrepancies.

  • 'Rank' and 'Classification' fields and 'Confidential' may not appear, depending on Diagnosis Configuration.

  • The diagnosis wizard shows you a filtered list of those diagnoses/codes that meet the MDS Definition of the item that was selected in section I.
