Creating Progress Note Types

This screen contains configuration settings for Progress Note Types. After creating a Progress Note Template, you can create a Progress Note Type. For example, Admission Summary or Incident Note. This makes chart review efficient and reports can be generated based on progress note type.

  1. Do one of the following: 

    • Single facility: Clinical > Setup > Progress Notes > Progress Note Types.

    • Multi-facility: Management Console > Standards > Care Management > Progress Notes > PN Types.

  • Description - Type information. 

  • Progress Note Type - Select option. Determines where the Progress Note Type is used.

    • Standard - Used for Progress Notes entered in a resident's chart.

    • Structured Progress Note (SPN) - Used when generating a SPN from an assessment. These are not selectable by a user in a resident's chart.

  • Template - Select option. Determines the prompts and appearance of the progress note type.

  • High Priority - Select option. If yes, appears in the High Priority Progress Notes pane of the Dashboards.

  • Appears on shift report - Select option. If yes, the note type shows on shift report. This option can be modified at the time of creating progress notes.

  • Appears on 24 hr. report - Select option. If yes, the note type shows on 24hr/72hr summary reports. This option can be modified at the time of creating progress notes.

  • Practitioner Engagement Hotlist - Select option. If yes, included in the hotlist for progress notes in the Practitioner Engagement mobile app if enabled.

  • Scope - Select option.

  • It is not recommended to create Progress Note Types specific to departments to ensure resident centric documentation. If reporting is needed, the Progress Notes Report has Department and Author filters.
