Overview of A La Carte Billing

You can use Point of Care (POC) to generate charges automatically from tasks and interventions documented in POC.  After you complete setup, automated imports create and update ancillary batches nightly.

Key features of a la carte billing:

  • Reduce billing errors by automatically billing for tasks and interventions entered in POC.

  • Enable POC Service time tracking to charge service minutes per unit.

  • Audit processed or unprocessed billing for POC tasks and interventions using the Point of Care Billing Report.

  • Provide detailed or summarized POC charges on residents' statements.

Note

To automatically generate ancillary batches, PointClickCare Hosting Operations Services (HOPS) must enable the scheduler for the POC nightly billing job. After you complete setup, contact Support to request enabling the POC nightly billing job.

Starting the day the POC Billing Job is enabled, daily ancillary batches auto generate each night. The POC Billing Job includes all unbilled tasks you document within the job start and end dates. If you document a task late, it is still charged. For example:

  1. You completed a task on 2/5 and did not document POC.

  2. The POC Billing Job for the week of 1/31 - 2/6 is complete and the task is not billed.

  3. The next POC Billing Job starts on 2/7 and ends on 2/13.

  4. You document the task on 2/8 with Effective Date, 2/5. The Effective Date is before the POC Billing Job start date, 2/7.

  5. The task is unbilled, and the POC Billing Job starting 2/7 includes and bills the task.

You can setup Service Billing Options to calculate Service Package overages. Overages are calculated monthly or daily by comparing POC entries to the Units in the POC section of the Service Package. For example

  1. POC service minutes per unit of charge code is set to 15 minutes.

  2. The service time for a resident for a charge code is 16 minutes.

  3. 2 units are charged, 1 unit for the first 15 minutes and 1 unit for the next minute.
