Documenting Follow Up for PRNs in eMAR

You can electronically document the effectiveness of PRN, or as needed, medications and treatments in eMAR. Documentation of a PRN is not complete until a follow up has been recorded. This helps maintain the documentation process for PRN medications and is an efficient way to monitor the effectiveness of medications for your residents.  

  1. eMAR > Resident list.

  3. Click PRN to show only PRN orders.

  4. Click Follow Up.

  5. Complete follow up results, any required Supplementary Documentation, and a progress note, if required.

  6. Click Record.

  • PRN Administration Progress Note(s) - You can see the progress note created when the medication was administered.  

  • Follow up Result - Select Option. Medications that require a pain level for administration, also require a pain level for follow-up.

  • Progress Notes - Type information. eMAR progress notes flow to the Progress Notes tab in the resident's chart. Click Populate Note Details to add medication information and directions to the progress note.
