Creating New Chart of Accounts

You can add new GL accounts or edit the existing GL accounts using the Chart of Accounts page.

  1. Click Chart of Accounts under the General Ledger Setup section at a Facility/Building or GL/AP Setup section at EMC.

  2. In the New Account window, enter the appropriate account number in the Account Number field.

  3. Enter an appropriate description in the Description field.

  4. Select the required account type from the Account Type list.

  5. Specify the account requirement by selecting Debit or Credit from the Normal Balance list.

  6. Select Active if you want the new account to be an active account.

  7. Select Control Account if you want to use this account as a control account.

  • Typically, there is usually only one control account in the chart of accounts-the Accounts Payable Trade account.

  • After you complete entering the chart of accounts, make sure that the chart of account numbers are correctly linked to the Admin chart of accounts. Single-facility users can access the Admin chart of accounts by clicking Admin >Setup >Chart of Accounts (under Billing Setup).

  • For multi-facility users, you can access the Admin chart of account by clicking EMC > Standards > Chart of Accounts (under Billing Setup).

  • If you are a multi-facility organization, then you need to go to EMC > Standards > Chart of Accounts (under the GL/AP Setup section) to access the Chart of Accounts page. You can then add a new account. After creating the account, you must select the facilities link that appears to the left of the account to activate the account for a facility.
