Electronically Receiving Overview

Electronically receiving or scanning supplies/medications into the system links the order within PointClickCare to the order received from the pharmacy. This process also allows the nurse to verify any discrepancies between the order as written, and the label (supply directions) received in the message from pharmacy. This ensure accurate updating of the MAR with the instructions as written on the medication label.

PointClickCare moves orders through statuses in the system so that the nurse knows where the medication is in the ordering/dispensing/receiving/reordering cycle of medication management at any given time.

As soon as possible after the medication is delivered from the integrated pharmacy, the medications should be scanned into the system to reconcile. After it is scanned, the supply sent from the pharmacy updates eMAR to match the label scanned with appropriate directions and supply.

Items waiting to be received sit in the Waiting to be Received tab from the orders portal in eMAR. There are links with indicators of how many supplies are waiting to be received in various other places in the application:

  • From the Order Listing within the resident's clinical chart, a red linked label tells you how many supplies are waiting to be received for that resident.

  • From within the resident view in eMAR, a red button in the upper right portion of the screen indicate the number of supplies waiting to be received for that resident.

  • In eMAR clicking the Orders Portal tab takes you to the same view as the Pharmacy tab in the web application where all of the same functions (including receiving medications) are completed.
