Skilled Nursing Facilities

Progress Notes Configuration

You can select which type of progress note is selected automatically when creating a progress note from a Resident-centric Conversation. You can also decide at a facility level whether or not the active conversation text flows over to the progress note when created from a Resident-centric Secure Conversation.

  1. From Clinical > Setup, click Progress Notes Configuration.

  2. Select the Secure Conversations Default PN Type.

    Warning

Review security settings for Edit Progress Note. This item works in conjunction with the Edit Progress Note Security.

    • Example A: If a facility views a text conversation as something that should be a part of the resident record and should not be changed, then set this security permission to No, in conjunction with ‘Include Secure Conversations Text in a Progress Note’ = selected in Progress Notes Configuration.

    • Example B: If a facility views the text conversation as a starting point for the creation of a progress note for easier editing and the nurse can take the text conversation and add on information to create a more narrative styled note, then set this security permission to Yes, in conjunction with ‘Include Secure Conversations Text in Progress Note’ = selected in Progress Notes Configuration.

    • Example C: If a facility views the text conversation as not belonging in the progress note in the form of a text conversation but instead a blank progress note, then set this security permission to Yes, in conjunction with ‘Include Secure Conversations Text in a Progress Note’ = cleared in Progress Notes Configuration.

  3. Select or clear to Include Secure Conversations Text in Progress Note.

  • Facilities clear Include Secure Conversations Text in Progress Notes. You can edit their progress notes through security in the Home tab. This is to enable a Blank Progress Note to be opened from a Secure Conversation.

  • To create a new progress note type, go to Progress Notes setup areas for Types and Templates.

  • You can select/change the Progress Note type if you have the security to do so.

  • If you select to Include Secure Conversations Text in Progress Notes, the entirety of the active conversation pulls into the first text box section of the progress note including username, date/time sent, and all active messages.

  • You can edit text of the conversation if you have the security to do so. Users without the security to edit the text conversation cannot edit the note type or the first text box section of the progress note.

  • You must have security permission to configure progress notes:

    • Clinical module > Setup – Progress Notes = Read or higher to view.

  • You must consider the security permission to edit the progress note when created from a Secure Conversation

    • Home module > Secure Conversations (parent header) > Edit Progress Notes.
