MDS 2.0 Case Mix Analyzer

The Case Mix Analyzer provides a detailed analysis of how the RUG/Case Mix Score was calculated for the MDS assessment. It can be accessed in the resident’s MDS tab, within the assessment, and in the MDS portal. The Case Mix Analyzer shows the RUG based on the coding in the assessment record and also shows potential RUG scores that would be possible given coding changes.

  • Do one of the following:

    • Option 1: From the MDS tab of the resident chart, select the linked RUG score of any completed MDS.

    • Option 2: Within the MDS, click the case mix analyzer link in the header.

    • Option 3: In the MDS portal, select the linked RUG score next to any in progress or completed MDS.

  • The final RUG Score/CMI is the value in GREEN; it indicates the highest ranked RUG for the resident. The RUG Score in BLUE/GREY indicates other potential RUGs for the resident.

  • Note the resident and MDS information, including name, ARD, Description (type) of assessment, RUGS Classification, CMI Score, ADL Score, Calculation Method, Case Mix Index Model.

  • Review the ADL scoring area to determine how the ADL score was determined.

  • The remainder of the report provides further details calculating each category. Each question and actual response are listed, with associated links to see the information as it looks on the MDS. This shows you how the system is calculating these items.

  • If the Status of the MDS is In Progress, the RUG/CMI score does not appear in the MDS list in the resident’s MDS tab. Select edit and click the case mix analyzer link in the header.

  • The RUG score appears in the header of the MDS, and this changes as responses are added to an In Progress MDS

  • To print the Case Mix Analyzer, right-click the report (not on one of the links). A menu appears. Click Print from that menu to open the Print window to allow you to select a printer and print the report.
