MDS 2.0 Scheduler

The MDS Scheduler shows assessments based on census entries and configurable scheduling options.

When a resident is first admitted, the Admission (Actual Admit) census line sends the Admission Full Assessment to the resident’s scheduler. The ARD is based on the scheduling options selected in MDS Configuration. After the Admission Full Assessment is complete and locked, the scheduler updates and shows the next Quarterly and Full Annual Assessments due. The Quarterly and Full Annual Assessments appear based on the scheduling options.

  1. Access Scheduler through resident’s MDS tab.

  2. Resident’s chart > MDS tab. Scheduler shows Next Full and Next Qtrly.

  3. Click +, next to Next Full to access Scheduler options (security driven):

    • Clear All Schedules.

    • Recalculate Schedule.

Access Scheduler through MDS portal

  1. Hover over Clinical > click MDS under the Care Management heading.

  2. Click Scheduled view.

    • Show assessments due in next – you can manually change this number and the screen refreshes.

    • Filter by discharged residents, Unit, and Floor, as well as print the listing.

  • Note

If the fourth quarterly date is same or just before the comprehensive date, then you should be doing the comprehensive by that date. You can always do MDS earlier but you can never do it later. If you select to do a quarterly when a comprehensive date is due within 30 days of your selected card, the system warns you.

  • The MDS assessment due can be started from the scheduled links and opens the Reason for Assessment window.

  • The date appears in Black with a countdown to the due date if the VB2/R2B date is > = Current Date.

  • The date appears in Red with a cummulating days overdue if the VB2/R2B date is < Current Date.

  • The date appears date in grey with a countdown to the due date if the listed VB2/R2B date is > Current Date BUT the date is not within the "Show residents due in the next __ day(s)" range.

  • If any of the Dates have a "WIP" to the right that means the MDS due is "work in progress" - Click the In Progress view at the top to see a list of residents with MDS in progress and which sections are not yet signed.

  • The plus (+) sign to the left of Resident’s name shows census info for Initial Admission, Most Recent Admission (Re-entry) and Discharge Date, and the option to >> recalculate schedule if you have the proper security access. It also has a >> clear all schedules if you have the proper security access and want to remove discharged/deceased residents from the schedule.

  • To view the configuration settings for the MDS scheduler, click New Configuration Options to Control MDS Scheduler Dates - Click Here! This shows the configuration options selected to show dates in the scheduler.

  • New Implementation - When a facility is preparing for initial roll-out of PointClickCare there is setup completed for the census and MDS imports. These processes have an impact on the scheduler initially and must be reviewed and reconciled as part of your initial implementation. Your PointClickCare Coach or Implementer can demonstrate this process and work through it with you. However, before that session, an understanding of how the scheduler and census are impacted is helpful.

    • MDS Import- In general, a facility imports 18 months worth of MDS assessments into PointClickCare pre-go live. A facility can import more but generally does not. 18 months is the minimum period of time for import.

  • You must have security permission to view the MDS Portal Scheduled view, and recalculate and clear schedules.
