Medical Diagnosis Notifications Overview

PointClickCare maintains a consistent shared list of medical diagnosis between the clinical record, the MDS and the billing system. You can add a medical diagnosis during MDS completion by selecting that diagnosis from section I in the MDS.

When you save section I of the MDS, if a diagnosis is not reflected in the Medical Diagnosis Module, the Diagnosis Wizard walks you through adding the diagnosis to the resident chart.

If you select not to complete the process of adding the diagnosis at that time, a Diagnosis Notification is generated.

It is important to have a system in place for managing diagnosis notifications so that discrepancies between MDS, clinical record, and billing are avoided. Discrepancies can lead to inconsistent records and can affect funding in some circumstances.

Diagnosis Notifications appear in the Diagnosis Notifications pane on the Clinical Dashboard and in the Med Diag tab of the resident's chart. Each notification consists of the following:

  • Action Links - The name of the link changes depending upon the action required: review, or clear.

  • Resident name - This only appears on the Clinical dashboard view. Click the linked name to go directly to the Med Diag tab of the resident's chart.

  • Notification Date - Indicates the original date on which the notification was created.

  • Effective Date - Indicates the ARD/Target date of the related MDS.

  • Description - Indicates the current status of the related MDS and the action required, for example, MDS in Progress - Review Required.

  • Created by - Indicates the user who originally created the notification.
