Updating Orders - Simple Update

When updating orders in PointClickCare, depending on what element you are updating in the order, the system determines if you are completing a ‘simple’ or a ‘complex’ order update.

Simple order updates allow you to make changes to orders that does not change the intent of the order. Simple updates update the order, and a new order is not required.

  1. From the Orders tab in the clinical chart, click Actions then click Update.

  2. Make the necessary change(s) in the appropriate field(s).

  3. Review and click Acknowledge.

  4. Enter Authentication, and click Authenticate if required.

  • Simple updates do not change the overall intent of the order, and do not require a new order to be written. Examples of simple updates include: changing the order type for reporting, changing the facility time code/pass time for the medication, adding supplementary documentation or admin notes to the order.

  • If you are integrated with your pharmacy, simple updates are not transmitted to pharmacy.

  • If you are updating orders, and you are prompted with an alert under the Start Date and time field telling you the updates you made require the original order to be discontinued and a new order to be created, see Complex Order Updates.

  • All orders must be reviewed for accuracy before clicking Acknowledge to proceed.

  • All changes are recorded in the Audit Details report.

  • You must have appropriate security permissions to update orders.

    • Clinical module > Enhanced Orders Management (parent header) > Update Orders = Yes.
