Entering a New Order Requiring Review

When you enter a new pharmacy order that requires clinical order review, when you select the medication (in the medication field), a label reading 'Medication Review Required' appears on the order form below the medication field. Additionally, a Clinical Order Review box appears below the Order Summary box containing the review notes for that medication.

  1. Enter a pharmacy order that requires review. 'Clinical Review Required' appears just below the medication field in the order entry screen. Clinical Order Review box appears below the Order Summary box. Review notes appear here.

  2. Save. The system validates whether or not you have security permission to Confirm and Review Own Orders. See Business Rules for the various scenarios and workflows depending on security. Workflow for orders requiring Clinical Review is outlined here.

A warning appears, indicating that the order requires additional clinical review, and is not active on the resident chart, or sent to pharmacy (if integrated) until the review is complete. The order is added to the chart in Pending Clinical Review status.

The order appears as pending clinical review in the following areas:

  • Order List in resident's chart.

  • eMAR/pMAR - in eMAR, the medication is not documented as administered.

  • Medications View of the Resident Dash.

  • Order Listing in Orders Portal

  • If the clinical review was triggered because of more than one clinical order review record, the note section shows all applicable notes separated with a line break.

  • Saving causes the system to validate whether or not you have security permission to Confirm and Review Own Orders.

    • If Yes, to Confirm & Review.

Order is saved with no further action.

The audit history logs the order as confirmed and reviewed by the user logged in at the date and time the order is saved.

  • Click Yes to Confirm and No to Review.

You see a window appear, indicating the order requires additional clinical review, and is not active on the resident's chart or sent to pharmacy (if integrated) until the review is complete. The order is added to the chart in Pending Clinical Review status.

Audit history is Confirmed by as user logged in, and date/time order saved as confirmed date/time. Clinical Review by & Date remains blank.

Order is not considered active until review is completed.

Order appears on eMAR/pMAR as 'Review Required'.

  • Click No to Confirm and Yes to Review.

You cannot confirm your own order. The system checks for permission to review.

Order goes to Pending Confirmation status.

  • Click No to Confirm and No to Review.

Order goes to Pending Confirmation status.
