New Pharmacy Order

You can add a Pharmacy order to a resident's chart for entry of any medication ordered by a practitioner.

  1. From the Orders tab of the resident clinical chart, click New.

  2. Enter the Order Date and Time that the order was given.

  3. Select the Order Category as Pharmacy.

  4. Select Ordered By. Search a list of Providers or click the linked name of the Last Prescribed by provider.

  5. Select the Search Library to be used to enter in the medication). You can Show Inactive medications that are no longer an active part of the Search Library.

  6. Type the Medication. Predictive text is used as you begin to type.

    Warning

    If Drug Protocols are enabled, Warnings and Alerts can appear when a medication is selected from the Medispan Library. Medications from a custom library and medications without a strength or dosage cannot be checked. Information appears in the Additional Information box.

  7. Select ordered medication from the list. 

    Note

    When Santyl or Regranex is ordered, you are prompted to add a wound description. This information populates in the Note to Pharmacy field.

  8. Select the Order Type.

  9. Select the Route of Administration.

  10. Complete Source Details for the Order including Permanent Medication Source, Pharmacy and any Notes to Pharmacy.

  11. Save to save this individual order or click Queue and New to place this order in a queue and open another Order Entry window.

  • If a controlled drugs is entered into the Medication field, a controlled drugs warning appears in red underneath the medication field.

  • If a Brand name is entered into the medication field, the Generic name appears underneath.

  • If any warnings are generated after the Medication is entered, a warning symbol appears next to the medication field. Click this warning for further information.

  • If the Route of Administration is not found in the list, click show all to show all possible routes.
