Status Progression of Medications Overview

After orders are added to the PointClickCare application when integrated with a pharmacy, the order moves through various statuses because it is transmitted to the pharmacy, processed, dispensed, and the actual medication is sent to the facility and received by facility staff. The status of any order can be viewed by clicking the + sign next to any order in the resident order listing or by clicking the + sign to the left of the orders list in the Orders Portal in eMAR.

  • When a new order is written in the system, it appears as On Order under the status column. This occurs when an outbound message is automatically sent to the integrated pharmacy. The order appears in the On Order (Electronic) tab in the Orders Portal under Pharmacy Orders. If the permanent medication source is a non-integrated pharmacy, the order appears in the To be Ordered tab. Running the Pharmacy Requisition report moves it to the On Order (Manual) tab.

  • The pharmacy reviews and processes the order and returns an inbound Dispense message. The medication now appears in the Waiting to be Received tab, where a facility user links it the order in the resident's chart when the medication is delivered from pharmacy. The status of the medication continues to be 'On Order' until it is electronically received.

  • After the medication is received, the status appears as On Hand. A reorder link now appears as appropriate in the Supply column.
