Managing IP Address Masks

Managing IP Address Masks show you how to locate where your users are logging in to PointClickCare. The PointClickCare firewall verifies the external IP address. When the IP Address is confirmed, the Central login page appears.

You can access PointClickCare from the IP addresses in the IP Address Mask. If you do not complete the IP Address Mask, any user from any IP address can access your database with a valid username and password. For example, you can access POC from a mobile phone if the external IP address the mobile phone connected from is in the IP Address Mask. This does not apply to remote users. If you are located outside North America, PointClickCare sets up IP address exceptions.

Identifying IP Addresses of Your Authorized Users

You can identify the IP Addresses of your authorized users by running the Login History Report. The Login History Report identifies the users' names, dates, times, and IP Addresses. The report shows the users who logged in to PointClickCare for the date range you select. 2.0_Report_Login_History_Report

  1. Do one of the following:

    • Single facilityAdmin > Setup > Security Users > Login History.

    • Multi-facility: Management Console > Standards > Financial Management > Security Users > Login History.

Completing IP Address Mask

When you run the Login History Report, copy the valid IP addresses in the IP Address Mask. A valid IP address must have 4 sets of numbers ranging from 1- 255, and separated by three dots. For example, 170.61.253.130 is a valid IP Address. You can enter a wild card (*) for a range of IP addresses. You can also add a Class Interdomain Routing Notation (/) to specify a specific range of IP addresses.

  1. Do one of the following:

    • Single-facility: Admin > Setup > FacilityConfiguration > IP Address Mask.

    • Multi-facility: Management Console > Standards > Financial Management > IP Address Mask.

  2. Paste the valid IP addresses from the Login History  Report. Type each IP Address on a separate line.

Configuring PointClickCare with Dynamic DNS Service

  1. Sign up for a dynamic DNS provider service. PointClickCare recommends these providers: DNS2GO or No-IP.

  2. Set up the Dynamic DNS at the facility. You need to run a third party utility on your computer to assign a domain name. This always points to the provider's connection, even when the IP address is changed.

  3. Enter the domain name that is provided by the DNS Server Provider in the IP Address Mask at Admin > Setup > Facility Configuration.

  4. Review the users list. Users with remote access can login from any location. Other users can login only from the location of the IP Address of the DNS service provider

  5. You can type multiple domain names in the IP Address Mask. You can have a mixture of IP addresses and domain name. Type each on a separate line in the IP Address Mask.
