Creating Follow Up Questions in POC

Follow up questions (FUQs) determine what information is needed for each task or intervention in POC. The FUQs prompt POC users to record documentation.

The Follow Up Question Library contains system FUQs that are used to populate MDS responses, or in POC Advanced Reporting (if enabled). System FUQs cannot be edited or deleted.

You can create new FUQs or edit existing FUQs in the Follow Up Question Library. The FUQs can then be associated with tasks or interventions. See Assigning Follow Up Questions to Interventions or Tasks.

You can configure alerts to trigger from a response to a follow up question. See Adding Alerts to Follow Up Questions.

You can add rules to follow up questions in the Task Library. See Adding Rules to Task Follow Up Questions.

  1. Management Console/EMC (if multi-facility database) > Standards > Care Management > Follow Up Question Library. (If single facility database: Clinical > Setup > POC Follow Up Question Library).

  2. Enter the requirements for the FUQ as described below:

    1. Question Text: Type the Follow Up Question exactly how you want it to appear to the end user to prompt them for the documentation.

    2. Control Type: Select the Control Type. Depending on the Control Type selected, complete additional fields:

      • Numerical Entry - type information in Length field.

      • Button Pick List or Horizontal Pick List - select Pick List.

    3. Pick List: Select an existing pick list or create new:

      1. Type the Pick List Description.

      2. In the S.C. column, enter the response's two character short code to appear on reports/ legends (e.g. ‘Y’).

      3. In the Description column, enter the response (e.g. ‘Yes’).

      4. In the Seq column, enter the sequence of the item to determine the order in which it appears (e.g. ‘1’).

      5. In the Icon column, select the Icon.

      6. Click New Item to create additional rows for responses.

      7. Click Save Pick List. The new pick list now appears in the Pick List menu, and can be used for the current follow up question, and other FUQs.

      8. To modify pick list items, click Edit for the pick list.

  • Create a general Activities FUQ, and include specific activities in the pick list. For example: What Group Activity was offered to the Resident? Pick List Items: Bingo, Pokeno, Music, and so on. The list can be edited as new activities are added or removed.

  • Vital sign control types MUST be used for the responses to push to the Weights and Vitals module. It is not possible to edit those control types.

  • Questions cannot be created to auto-populate the MDS, however it is possible to create POC lookbacks for MDS questions. See Managing MDS Look Backs.
